pobl15.07.16 - Gwynedd & Anglesey Relay for Life 2016
We Were RIGHT TRACK FOR 24hours for CANCER RESEARCH UK

Over 300 people took part with family, friends & work colleagues taking up the unique fundraising baton as they joined Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life held at Treborth Race Track.

The event was a culmination of months of fundraising by the teams taking part, through a wide range of activities from karaoke competitions to quizzes, supermarket bag-packs to charity balls, and securing donations from friends, families and work colleagues.

The event was opened by Ed Aspel, Executive Director of Fundraising at CRUK,

“This is the seventh time Relay For Life has been held in Menai Bridge, the event was again a huge success. Various fundraising activities took place on the day, along with CRUK representative being present to promote health awareness..
Tracey Wright volunteer Chair of Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life said: “We had an amazing event, despite the awful weather conditions each and every person taking part, the sponsors and donators toward the event made this event special.”
We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more about Relay For Life and how they can get involved. Don’t worry if you haven’t fundraised before. This is a unique event and every single person in Gwynedd & Anglesey can play a part. Every step Cancer Research UK makes towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person.

poblDuring Relay For Life, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys the carnival atmosphere. As the Relay continues non-stop through the night, team members not on the track take turns to rest, eat, or sleep in their tents, which are
set up close by.

Along their 24 hour journey the teams were entertained by various local artists all who donated their time in support.

As dusk fell the atmosphere quieted as the Candle of Hope ceremony began The ceremony is the most poignant part of Relay For Life when specially made Candle of Hope bags - decorated with touching messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones - are filled with sand and lit up with candles around the Treborth Race Track. “Relay For Life is an incredibly rewarding way to support life-saving research and help Cancer Research UK bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. It bonds people together in the belief that united we are stronger than cancer and it is a fantastic way to enjoy fundraising for such an important cause.”

Cancer Research UK supports the work of thousands of scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to beating cancer by understanding its causes and investigating how best to prevent, diagnose and treat it. Thanks to Cancer Research UK’s work, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. Survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But despite improvements in treatment, cancer causes more than one in four of all deaths in the UK. Cancer Research UK wants to change that and needs the help of people in Gwynedd & Anglesey to help save many more lives.
